UKAS technical bulletin
Posted on May 24, 2010 with 1 Comment
The long awaited technical bulletin from UKAS has finally been released.
The idea is that these technical bulletins are planned to have the same status as ALG memos do for the contractors; once it’s in their UKAS expect you to abide by it until such time as it goes into the updated guidance.
Since i like to make everyone’s life as simple as possible i have read, digested and noted the pertinent points – so here goes;
- You can’t report free fibre in soils if you are only accredited to the HSG 248 method (The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures)
- You can say you found a piece of asbestos cement and it had chrysotile in it.
- If you want to analyse for free fibre you need an extension to scope to the draft MDHS 90 method.
- UKAS will allow up to 60 samples or 70 points per day without investigating further.
- UKAS would like to know of any temporary site labs if they are going to be in operation for longer than 8 weeks.
- Organisations should consider implementing a programme of re-inspecting cleared areas to show continuous improvement of analysts’ work.
- This could also include photographs and video evidence.
Happy Reading
