Unexpectedly finding asbestos in your home can be a nasty shock. Many people don’t realise they have asbestos in their property and only discover it when they want to carry out repairs or alterations. Often, a homeowner is alerted to the problem of hidden asbestos by a plumber or electrician called in to do some work. Or a surveyor might point it out when you are trying to sell your house.

The long awaited technical bulletin from UKAS has finally been released.
The idea is that these technical bulletins are planned to have the same status as ALG memos do for the contractors; once it’s in their UKAS expect you to abide by it until such time as it goes into the updated guidance.
Since i like to make everyone’s life as simple as possible i have read, digested and noted the pertinent points – so here goes;

It has come to the HSE’s attention when visiting sites throughout the UK that several contractors may have been working on projects the fell beyond the period of their licence expiry and as such The Asbestos Licensing Unit (ALU) has been made aware of occasions where licence holders are attempting to notify asbestos work that either
- starts beyond the expiry date of their current licence,
or
- continues beyond that date.
